EyeLocate to reunite Alzheimer's patients with families

Under the patronage of HRH Princess Muna Al-Hussein of Jordan - Honorary Ambassador of Alzheimer’s Disease International Jordan (ADI), IrisGuard UK Ltd, in partnership with NatHealth, the Al Oun for Alzheimer’s Patients Care Association (AACA), and Jordan’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship (MODEE), proudly unveiled "EyeLocate" - the world’s first iris-based digital ID system aimed at reuniting Alzheimer’s and dementia patients with their families and carers.

Developed by IrisGuard, the EyeLocate system uses advanced iris recognition to verify the identity of wandering Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, facilitating their safe return to caregivers, who have registered with the AACA. This breakthrough in healthcare demonstrates the power of biometric technology in addressing a critical challenge faced by patients and their families.

Imad Malhas, Founder and Managing Director of IrisGuard, commented on this milestone: "EyeLocate is a testament to the potential of biometrics to not only transform industries but also touch lives in meaningful ways. By applying our iris recognition technology to healthcare, we are helping protect some of the most vulnerable members of society. This system ensures that dementia patients can be safely reunited with their families, offering peace of mind and security to those affected by this heartbreaking disease."

The collaborative effort between IrisGuard, NatHealth, AACA, and MODEE showcases the importance of partnerships that focus on doing well by doing good. Together, they have created a system that not only enhances public safety but also addresses a pressing social need in Jordan and beyond.

Alzheimer's Disease in Jordan and Globally:

In Jordan, it is estimated that over 20,000 people suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, a figure expected to rise as the population ages.

Globally, Alzheimer's affects more than 55 million people, with numbers projected to reach 78 million by 2030, according to Alzheimer’s Disease International. Wandering, a common symptom, affects up to 60% of patients, making timely identification crucial for their safety.

NatHealth, Jordan’s leading healthcare management company, played a pivotal role in making EyeLocate a reality. Their sponsorship of the project highlights their dedication to community-focused initiatives that support vulnerable populations and promote healthcare innovations.

The Al Oun for Alzheimer’s Patients Care Association (AACA) provided essential expertise and developed a national database for Alzheimer’s patients, ensuring that EyeLocate is grounded in a deep understanding of the specific challenges faced by these individuals and their families.

Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein, Honorary Ambassador of Alzheimer’s Disease International, praised the initiative, emphasizing its role in protecting the most vulnerable citizens. The project’s launch during Dementia and Alzheimer’s Awareness Month aligns with global efforts to raise awareness about this debilitating condition.

IrisGuard’s biometric technology is transforming the healthcare landscape by offering services that bring security, dignity, and comfort to Alzheimer’s patients and their families. EyeLocate sets a new standard for using iris technology to improve public health and safety.
